Wow, that was amazing, great insights coming thick and fast. Jon has some very funny turns of phrase, like when he talked about people beginning to realise that cutting off kids' junk isn't a super progressive way to deal with homosexuality (I may be paraphrasing that slightly). I did make a note of these gems: "...they're the dinosaurs. They were the ones pretending that men are women ... and women are goldfish..."; and his description of Justin Trudeau, "like this sloganeering Ken doll."
Such a talented crew, and exciting line-ups for the future! I love Stella's hosting style, her irrepressible joie de vivre, evident deep compassion and childlike awe in the face of this non-medical car crash. I'm impressed by Mia's humility when she mentions her incisive work analysing the WPATH files, and I appreciate Carrie's insider perspective reminding us how Actual Medicine is supposed to be practised.
You seem to have already navigated depths and widths of the rabbit warren long before anyone else gets there, Eliza. "We know what comes after No Debate, and it's Disingenuous Analogies."
Anyway, thanks for that. I'm off to get some much needed Gender Affirmative Care, by which I mean an early night. I've just watched the BBC and ITV news report on the final Cass Report, which is a bit depressing. Rightly, of course, they echo the call for the best evidence-based treatment for gender questioning kids, and they mention the need for it to be "more holistic", but for anyone not paying much attention, or for those paying attention for the wrong reasons, the message that comes across most is that GIDS was closed because it couldn't manage the explosion in referrals, and now there are going to be a lot of centres instead, because there are all these poor kids languishing on the waiting list. I've not had time to read the report, but the bullet-points I've seen also give a bit of that impression too. We've banned puberty blockers, but maybe a lot of the kids will be ready for the real deal by now (which would help get through the backlog quick when they can't find enough proper therapists). They've been on waiting lists for four years, so many of them will have been through "the wrong puberty" anyway.
So I'm afraid the mainstream is a million miles away from the insights you discuss here. Nothing about prevention, how to stop things at the other end of the conveyor belt. Thankfully, our Conservative government - useless in every other way - have reined in some of the "genderwang". Sickeningly, Labour are ranting that the Cons need to get this sorted, and they'd fix it in no time, despite virtually having themselves body-painted with rainbow flags and riding sparkly unicorns to work for about the last decade.
