I am not much of a fabulist. Resolutely realist. But this piece tempts me and I love the painting. Who is/was the artist please?

You know, I don't even remember. I love to take photos of the little blue villages in the background of Renaissance paintings... but rarely keep artist and image together.

Well, I was looking for something new to read. After that recommendation, I'll have to dig out my old copy of Calvino.

If you're into Italian fables, do you know the film Tale of Tales? Based on The Pentamerone, a collection of fairy tales collected by Giambattista Basile in the 27th century.

I haven't read the original stories, but the film is fascinating, grotesque, compelling. Well worth checking out.

Oooh thanks for recommending, I just looked for and bought Calvino's book and also Nancy L. Canepa's translation of The Pentamerone, along with her From Court to Forest which is about the birth of the literary fairy tale. Thanks again!
