Exactly. Starting from an absurd premise and going from there isn’t reasonable. The entire idea of “recognition” is based on coercion because it requires the participation of everyone else. How did we get here?

Sadly, New Zealand seems to be something of a basket case when it comes to its "ideological capture" by the transgender and woke-ish tribes.

From their otherwise credible Statistics department which at least has an intriguing "Concept and Classification Management System":

"Sex reassignment occurs where a person has undergone the necessary treatment to permanently change their sex."

http://aria.stats.govt.nz/aria/?_ga=2.135330993.1433053733.1593671441-939313310.1593671441#StandardView:uri=http://stats.govt.nz/cms/StatisticalStandard/FrytLv0KtGf6RhVY

Though they nowhere define - that I can see - exactly what it means to be male or female.

Although I'm pleased to see that they at least recognize the difference between sex and gender:

"Although the term gender is commonly substituted for the term sex they are not interchangeable, as they are different concepts. Whereas sex is a biologically determined variable, gender refers to the socially and culturally perceived or expected dimensions of behaviour associated with males and females."

Even if they seem reluctant to consider the contributions of biology to behaviour.

But in addition to that, their definition of "lesbian" - "A woman who is sexually attracted to people of the same sex or gender" - highlights the extent of the rot there:

Some cause to argue that the rot at Stats NZ is maybe part and parcel of the more general rot of NZ science leading to current efforts to install "indigenous ways ways of knowing (Mātauranga Māori)" as coequal to more conventional "Eurasian"/Western science. I completely agree.

There is a piece in NZ media today complaint that surgery for these emotional and mental issues are not accessible. Because women are different from men and do matter I am annoyed that the lack of specialist and training and services including even birth and other sex specific medical conditions, for over half the population are even worse. Quite remarkable this reality goes largely unchallenged and unremarked by anyone or in the media.

Such a simple principle really: to distinguish between "sex" and "gender", and where and why each matters -- or doesn't. It's the wilful conflation of sex and gender that causes so many problems: mainly at the expense of women.
