I wrote a short piece for UnHerd about the New York Times’ shameful hit piece on detransitioners: If taken seriously, detransition threatens the very foundation of “gender-affirming care” — because if patients can be mistaken, then clinicians can harm. The experiences of detransitioners like Chloe Cole
This NYT article was an absolute disgrace. A hit piece on detransitioners might be the lowest point yet for the NYT; they have no shame. As a NYT subscriber, I also can’t forget Michelle Goldberg’s editorial in favor of allowing schools to transition children without parental consent. Deeply irresponsible. A few articles expressing lukewarm criticism of US gender medicine don’t even begin to balance the scales.
You nailed it with your conclusion, the way US gender medicine treats detransitioners is the way that cults treat heretics.
Wonderful piece Eliza. Seeing Maggie Astor's article on the front page of the NYT actually motivated me to go to the NYT building the next day and leave a copy of Time to Think for her, with a nice note saying I think the book "will come to be seen as consequential to the current debate."
It's heartening to read pieces like yours and I hope to see them in wider circulation soon.
It's all wrong. I say print all of this out and send hard copies to the "holy and sacred" NY Times. My ex-husband's uncle wrote for decades in the business section of this paper and wrote 2 books about the disappearing American factory worker. When Neddy "transitioned," Uncle Lou didn't express the demanded support, and even had the temerity to say that Ute was not respected. Neddy and the rest of the family ostracized him, despite his fame and wisdom. Go figure.
What the New York Times gets wrong about detransitioning

Such a good piece. And, yes, send it to Maggie Astor!
Please send it to the NY TIMES!!!!
Ugh, but Marjorie Taylor Greene is the worst of the worst. I wish Chloe Cole didn't align herself with such ignorant, hateful people.
Good piece as always. This just released: https://www.ohchr.org/sites/default/files/documents/issues/women/sr/statements/2023-05-19-statement-sr-vawg.pdf
