Exhibit A: Demands for women to change the way we protest our disappearing rights Exhibit B: More people support abortion rights when the poll language focuses on women American women and girls lost a constitutional right one month ago. And some reproductive-rights organizations just can’t stop policing the way we talk about this loss and what it means.
Totally agree, Eliza, you nailed it again. What is so frustrating is that this supposedly "inclusive" approach is throwing away decades of consciousness raising in our country by feminists! Just yesterday, I was chatting with a neighbor, a Viet Nam vet in his late 60s or early 70s. He told me he needed his dogs just to get through each day, they make the nightmares from PTSD bearable. We drifted into the awfulness of politics in this moment, how that is stressing literally everybody out. Then he said, totally out of the blue, "what those judges did is WRONG. I have three kids. I am totally against abortion. But it is a WOMAN'S BODY, it is HER right to choose!" He was literally shaking with emotion. He came to that conclusion because he knows and loves WOMEN, and he listened to WOMEN. If the issue is not about a woman's body, how could choice about abortion possibly make sense to him anymore?
Totally agree. Imagining how much time and money has been spent creating these stupid infographics and getting this message out is maddening, because it all could have been used to actually help women.
The "don't use coat hanger imagery" is also driving me insane. I've seen some orgs claim that coat hanger imagery "stigmatizes self administered abortion" but never any follow up. Who is saying that? Why should I listen to anyone so out of touch they think women aren't going to die from unsafe illegal abortions this time just because the medication abortion pill is more widely available?
The idea that somehow hewing to gender ideology is more important than accurately describing and messaging the actual, in-real-life, right that women just lost is utterly bonkers. I can only hold out hope that this institutionally-driven inanity implodes on itself soon.
Another substack writer thinks the radical trans agenda is too well coordinated, and therefore well funded, enough to be the work of the tiny minority of actual trans people. He thinks it could be Pharma, motivated by an alternate money stream, for all the lifelong hormone buyers, other than women with bc pills, but also to cover up possible vaccine side effects of gender dysphoria.
Idk about the latter, but it’s undeniable that Pharma stands to profit. My thought is the huge PR campaign to support trans inclusivity and even specialness is driving many more kids to proclaim trans identity to avoid misogynistic gender roles imposed on them for their particular sex, but also to feel special, rather than because of some vaccine side effect.
However, the Catholic church has supported antiabortion ballot initiatives and bills, even though they’re technically not supposed to support individual candidates. The Catholic church is incredibly well funded and uses those funds to campaign against women’s and gay rights. What if they’re also funding the well oiled PR machine promoting a radical trans agenda to remove both women’s rights and to enforce an anitgay agenda, similar to that in Iran, where homosexuality is illegal and trans surgeries are mandated for gay people, especially men? The Catholic church replaced Ratzinger with a buddy Jesus in the new guy, a la Dogma (the movie), but they’re still as repressive and antiwoman, as ever.
We have to end the right of religious organizations to campaign politically in any way, shape or form. I haven’t a clue how though.
Freakin' Planned Parenthood. I think it's worth mentioning that they, along with the ACLU, were against raising the minimum marriage age to 18 in California. California currently has no lower age limit for marriage. Point being that PP's support for women and girls is questionable at best.
You are right. As exemple, semantic slip from "workers" to "salaries" have play a role in the lack of interest for worker protection in the general public. They are using an old strategy and I think they know what they're doing.

Thank you! And just how many “trans men” want or need abortions?? Asking for a friend.

When men gain abortion rights, women lose them.

Another great article Eliza, thank you
