I thought I couldn't be surprised by any of this anymore, but this is shocking. It doesn't just show how much these kids are still existing in a realm of magical thinking and don't understand these ideas (much less at a level of consenting to either social or medical transition), but the adults are also stuck in a works of magical thinking and shallow understanding. This level of thinking is developmentally appropriate for children, but for adults?? It's insane. And dangerous

Much of this strikes me as an effort to “queer” the world (undermine norms). Queering is revolution. Binaries are bad so let’s destroy them.

But little to no interest in what to do after the revolution. Little thought about what this new queered world will be.

Well, one of the binaries is adult/child, so I think they probably have a few thoughts about it, but thankfully I'm not in their heads.

These people need to stay away from children!! Unless you’re child has been severely emotionally, physically or sexually traumatized parents need to stop taking their kids to “therapists,” period! And if a child is in “therapy” an advocate for the child should be present at all times. Bad therapists are ruining children. Bad therapists are worse than no therapy. Children’s brains do not work and function like adult brains. If adults would just let children be children we would not be in the mess we’re in right now. Children need to be curious and imaginative and be with other children their own age so they can play. Adults are getting in the way of NORMAL growth and development!!! We all figured it out, without “therapy’” so will they! Parents…raise your children. You are capable. Your child needs you to help them through tough times, not someone else.

I am unsure whether this is just stupid or an evil plot against human beings . Perhaps both ? Any adjectives I can think of tend to make this sound funny ! The trouble is that it really isn't . Putting pre pubertal children thru' this "re-education" makes me feel rather sick as in liable to vomit .

I wouldn’t know half of what I now know about what is actually going on “out there” without your investigations into entire worlds unto themselves that I would rather not spend time in myself because I know what it would do to me also, it would just be overwhelming and could even become its own form of self torture, and I’m sorry that hurts your brain but I’m grateful for these reports from the front, as it were

Today I learned about gender wiki in linking to words I was unfamiliar with in your piece and sadly that led to my accidental discovery of a page that read “4 Clear Signs you are a Witch by Blood—take quiz” which just about captures it (just substitute trans, non binary or amalgagender). So this is what kids are consuming online! And I assume many parents and therapists have literally no clue what is being consumed and what the impact is on children and adolescents unless they were to go down the same rabbit holes

Yet these clinicians you quote who should know better, cannot see how leading their interventions are instead of helping a child critically assess what they’re learning online or in their peer groups regarding concepts of biologic sex and socially constructed gender roles while normalizing engaging in playing and fantasy in trying on identities like clothing. It’s staggering how negligent this all is and would they take the same approach if it were porn use that led a young person to wonder if they were straight gay lesbian or bi when they’ve not yet had a chance to mature and discover this over time?

Your gathering of data and your astute observations are so important, and I hope you keep doing this work and disseminating it widely, especially to clinicians when possible. I also hope you are able to take mental health breaks with practicing your art of photography which I also appreciate you sharing with us, as well as your sharing of contemplative works by others, it’s an effective counterpoint and a balm to our collective overstimulated brains 😵‍💫🤕

"If my magic stick could fulfill your greatest wish, what would that be?" If the wish needs to be about body parts , mine would be to replace this "doctor's" head with a chamber pot. (I am sorry, Eliza, I don't have your self-restraint and cannot resist a cheap shot).

This is very timely for me, in that I had a discussion (heated argument) with my 18-year-old daughter, who clarified to me that she believes she is turning into a male, and that anyone can change their sex, as long as they: (1) choose to do so; and (2) make some effort to look like the opposite sex.

She then got confused when I asked if someone who doesn't pass, but "makes some effort" by wearing a dress and having long hair - someone like Rachel Levine - has become a woman. She thought maybe that someone who clearly doesn't pass isn't the opposite sex.

What she is sure of is that anyone can change sex as long as they want to, and make the appropriate amount of effort (the amount that allows them to pass).

She also doesn't think the synthetic testosterone she is taking is the same as "steroids" because "she makes it in her body." That is, because her body contains some naturally occurring testosterone, she believes the synthetic testosterone is not a "steroid."

What I'm saying is that the magical thinking and lack of understanding of these issues doesn't end when the child becomes 18. It continues on, even as these young people are allowed to start taking these life-altering drugs, which the clinics that hand them out help to finance through whatever legal means they can find. (They also help these teens to legally change their names.) My daughter is intellectually very smart, but you would never know it to hear her speak on these issues.

My daughter also thinks people, until about 15 years ago, knew for a fact that anyone who looks like a woman or a man really is a woman or a man. (Thus, if someone had medical treatments, or just dressed in a certain way such that they could easily pass, people believed that they were the sex people thought they were - unless they didn't want to be, in which case the appearance was irrelevant.)

She thinks that, as of perhaps the last 15 years, a group of radical lunatics (of which I am now one) began to think that there is some biological essence that is "male" or "female," and she thinks this radical group made up definitions such as having a body "designed with the function to produce large gametes or small gametes" to justify their radical belief in an "essential" male or female existence - when everyone knows this is really a choice that only needs effort to manifest itself. According to my daughter, the real and enduring definition of "male" or "female" is just a conglomeration of a bunch of visible characteristics, such as hairiness, deepness of voice, breasts, apparent "vagina" or "penis" (even if it's a non-functional appendage created from the skin of the forearm), coupled with choice. Accordingly, the amount of characteristics necessary to be "male" or "female" and which ones are more or less important is a matter of common sense.

I feel for you, having to listen to all this insanity, but I can tell you that it's even more disturbing to hear these ideas coming out of your own child's mouth.

That is infinitely worse. These kids are so confused and hold their fragile beliefs so rigidly.

One thing I keep taking away from your writing on this subject: it's going to keep getting worse. Your " Maverique" reference is a perfect example. There will always be new identities and new orientations, as the existing ones become more mainstream and familiar (and thus, to them, boring). That means there will always be new heresies and new forbidden things to say, and even more abstraction from actual reality. These kids don't have a chance.

As a teacher of vulnerable children in Brooklyn public schools for almost 2 decades, I am astonished at this set of questions from Cohen-Kettenis. First, I've been trained in asking non-leading questions and even in the "doll interview" for ascertaining whether a child has been sexually abused. It's very important not to be leading. The conflict of interest is massive. If she discovers that needle in the haystack, who can imagine being a brother instead of a sister while still in-utero, then she's got BINGO. These people have thrown Piaget's stages of child development out the window. Meanwhile, "Paul," the teen boy I've been corresponding with about his worries of "being partly female," have evaporated, as he relayed in this week's email to me. He said he's stopped watching porn on his phone and thinks perhaps early exposure to it got him on the fantasy. He reports he's having friendly conversations with Mom and Dad, studying, playing board games and doing the Primal Fitness exercise routine I suggested. This took only 6 weeks of communication, only once a week after the initial first 3 emails. I told him I'm not doing therapy, but I can offer informed suggestions, as a grandmother would, because of seeing the gender field from the inside as a trans widow. He'd found my videos on child development randomly and contacted me.

This is horrific. I can't imagine what this is like for you, Eliza. I'm spitting feathers just reading your report. What the hell are these people doing asking children to undress dolls to discuss their body parts? How do they get away with it? Why aren't these children's-bits-obsessed sociopaths getting repremanded or prosecuted? Where are the actual aduts? All rhetorical questions - we know the answers.

So they're now scoring kids on how well they've been radicalized into the cult. Sixty-odd percent did not get 'male' or 'female' right; I'd be surprised if 1% did. I, too, would like to see the answer sheet.

I'm a little hazy on the details - the links to McGill require a login, by the way - but it's probably not too important, and we all get the gist.

They're so insane, these folk. I suspect if you complained they've added "circumcised" into the inclusive mix, but not "circumtransed", they'd fricken add that too.

These ‘clinicians’ have all of the empathy of Dr Mengele.

How can this doctor downplay the gravity of a decision like getting a double mastectomy, by rationalizing that their patient, ie victim, can just go get breasts later if they feel like it was a mistake?

She likens choosing chest surgery as an adolescent to ‘getting married before twenty’ or ‘not eating cinnamon’?? What are the long term health consequences of ingesting or not ingesting cinnamon as an adolescent?

Have these doctors been so twisted by their god complex that they actually equate breast implants with mammary glands, as if their primary purpose is a bumpy silhouette and the sexual interest that that piques?

And this same doctor, Dr Olson-Kennedy, won’t publish data from a publicly funded study that contradicts the tenets of her new religion, as she is head of the center for transyouth health and development at Children’s Hospital LA?

Surely her lab has a public sidewalk in front of it where gender critical people could picket after getting advice from a qualified lawyer on what their rights are and on what to avoid doing so as not to get arrested.

We are asked to believe that the subject at hand is a condition so unbearably painful that the vast majority of those suffering with it will end their own lives simply to escape it. Yet the tone of the conference, which deals with innocent children afflicted by this horrible curse, is positively gleeful at all the wonderful things we can learn. It's sadistic even on their own terms.

I recall someone pointing out that medical training is NOT scientific . My friends in the Medical Faculty at my university found it depressingly unscientific after having studied science subjects for school-leaving exams . Most teaching was by rote learning and even essay writing did not require proper sentences , to my amazement !
