I’ve gotten several comments and emails over the past few months asking whether there’s a paid option for my Substack. Until now, the answer’s been no. But I finally decided to turn on a paid option.
Here’s the deal: If you think my work is valuable and want to (and you’re able to) support me by purchasing a paid subscription, I’d be grateful! I quit my cushy nonprofit job to go back to graduate school to study gender identity. Let’s just say research assistantships are not lucrative gigs and I’m not rich. (But I also have a small stipend and savings and am doing OK, and a lot of people aren’t!)
But I want to be clear about the benefits for paid subscribers: I’m not really sure what’s in it for you! That’s because I want everything I write to be as accessible to as many people who are working on and thinking about this issue as possible. That means that I’m not planning to write subscriber-only posts. And I want everybody to be able to comment on every post, regardless of subscription status. I learn too much from what my readers contribute and I don’t want to shut that conversation down by limiting access to the comment section. If you’re OK with that and you still want to subscribe, cool—and thank you!
In any case, thank you—to every single one of you—for reading and commenting and sharing! This has been such a wonderful space for me to work out ideas, and you’ve made it that way by thinking out loud with me. I hope you’ll stick around.
I like your posts. They are wellcome to my e-mail.
Subscribed! And pleased to. Worth supporting.
