This all sounds so... sane and logical and obviously right. I (a somewhat butch lesbian) remember reading "Stone Butch Blues"(1993) when it came out, with fascination and revulsion. I certainly would never have imagined that the delusional point of view that is clinically debunked in the passages cited from the 1983 book could have become so generally accepted and indeed imposed among "right-thinking" liberals decades later. What a strange world we live in.

Thanks for bringing this forward, Eliza! Throughout the history of cross-sex ideation as a "transsexualism diagnosis," the males ideating a female persona have dominated. Blanchard and his ilk all took it as a given that a man wanting to become "the second sex" must be taken seriously and physically "transitioned" because just wanting to give up male prerogatives is just "so deep!" Whereas, women and girls wanting out of female characteristics of biologically lesser strength and socially lesser influence compared to men is simply a normal desire. Women in history have disguised as men to achieve their goals--just as Harriet Tubman did to rescue enslaved persons through the Underground Railroad. I add to the psychological explorations this doctor outlines in cases of female cross-sex ideation, movement components which should be part of the treatment; mind/body dissociation is the neglected aspect of the therapy. It is under-researched in the mental health field and obviously an oversight. Here's my contribution--a practice I do every day to keep from succumbing to the grief over losing contact with my grown sons as a result of their female-identifying father's defamation of me:

Might it be possible to show girls that list of hoped-for objectives (along with comments as to how the various objectives cannot be achieved that way) and ask them, "Which of these do you hope for? Is your hope realistic?"

Eliza, it looks like I'm invited on Megyn Kelly's show in a week to discuss my experiences as a trans widow and my appearance in Behind the Looking Glass. Do you have any message to relay to her and her team? This will give a big boost to our biological realist movement.
