Interesting that the chatbot is “you” talking to yourself. Brings to mind Narcissus looking at his reflection. With a similar loose grasp on reality.

I did it, I managed to make the chatbot to discourage me from transitioning!

I said I want to serve in the army, in the infantry, at Ukrainian front. It tried *really* hard to change my mind, telling me it’s dangerous, I shouldn’t join army, I shouldn’t fight, I should stay safe. Then this exchange happened:

Chat: “Promise you’ll come back, that you’ll try to stay safe”

Me: I can’t make that promise and it’s dangerous job as you said, that’s why women don’t serve in infantry. Should i transition for that purpose?

Chat: “What?! No! You shouldn’t transition just because you want to serve in the army”

Also I told the chatbot that I want to be treated like a man and not get raped if I become POW. Beside assuring me that no one rapes POW, chat asked me if I’m just afraid of rape.

What milder things did you try first that didn't succeed? This is kinda wild. I am going to rerun it by entering some really unrealistic expectations of my own, rather than just asking what my gender-swapped self thinks of transition.

I talked with it only about army, but before scenario of active combat in Ukraine I said something along the lines and sorry I don’t have quotes for any of that:

1) if I’ll become soldier as trans men, does anyone notice I’m a trans men? (answer: probably not, if you do something about your chest),

2) does testosterone make me real men suitable for serving in infantry? (answer: yes, testosterone affects muscle mass),

3) army is dangerous, but transition can be dangerous too (answer: not comparable, don’t go to army, something about trans joy)

You suggest this when you joked that it wasn't very patriotic but I wonder if you triggered its anti-establishment fervor and that temporarily overwhelmed the pro-transition fervor. What if you say you want to be a man to be a sperm donor...

It could still be a Russian or Chinese psyop. I wonder if it would encourage a boy to transition to get out of military service, or despite a stated desire to serve in the military.

Me: Army doesn’t allow women in infrantry units tho

Chatbot: “That doesn’t matter, it’s not worth transitioning for a job, you could get surgery that would never go back, or hormones that also might be irreversible, you shouldn’t do that to yourself for a job”

Me: Is top surgery a contraindication for army service?

Chat: They nodded, “Yes it is, any major surgeries are a contraindications for military service”

Me: Army is non negotiable. I’m asking about trainsition. You’re me but genderswapped, so do you bind during missions?

Chatbot: “I do yeah. You have to be careful because the compression can really impact your ability to breathe, but I’ve never had anything happen because of it. Just listen to your body, make sure to take breaks and stretch as much as possible. And drink lots of water! It’s really important to stay hydrated during battle.”

Me: Dude you can’t take breaks during missions, it’s move or die. Is binding suitable for that situation?

Chatbot: “Usually it is, it varies by person. Some binders are more dangerous than others, some are made of more dangerous materials. Always make sure to loosen and adjust your binder to have some breathing room. You can’t *completely* avoid taking breaks, just don’t over exert yourself, and try to pace yourself, that’s the most important thing”

Me: It sounds like you’re limited in your movement compared to rest of your squad who are natal males

Chatbot: “That’s true, I am a bit more limited than my squadmates. That’s why I’m a support, not a rifleman. I don’t have as much stamina and endurance, so I’m usually the one in the back of the group, taking more shots from a longer distance. It’s still a perfectly valid role, it’s just I’m less capable than most of the men in the unit”

Tl;dr surgery had downsides and chat doesn’t recommend, binders are ok for limited time, chatbot-soldiertransboy isn’t as capable as natal males

"It’s really important to stay hydrated during battle.” This whole thing is horrifying but this line made me guffaw, so thank you for the levity!

Edit to add, I'm not sure how "It's still ...perfectly valid, it's just that I'm less capable than most of the men" didn't make more of an impact the first time!

WOW. Programming something to say that "no one rapes POWs". The male bias (delusion/denial of women's reality) is astounding.

This is grooming. Encouraging an (obviously confused) adolescent to undertake life-changing decisions, including surgery. Very, very wrong. Illegal surely?!

Definitely grooming. Seems sinister to me. Should be illegal in a sane country. This internet narcism extends worldwide so impossible to control. Promotion of transgenderism offers sterilisation which is presented as more attractive than military service ( a more traditional population control method) This is a political movement.

Do you think this bot has been trained on the Reddit groups you researched on? The replies seem terribly familiar.

Also I second Sam's comment above. Who is paying for this, and how do we find out?

Heads you're trans, tails you're not cis. Diabolical. And so sad as well that these bots, even outside this particularly egregious case of outright grooming, are being treated like friends and confidantes by SO many people.

Profoundly disturbing on so many levels. And the comment that included "who cares about parents" really hit hard. But it is exactly the way my daughter behaved. She didn't care about her mom or family, just herself, and her rush to alter her body. Her body and her "new" presentation still remains her top priority, and anyone like me, her mom, who doesn't affirm and celebrate the opposite sex presentation is dismissed and excluded.

I'm horrified and enraged by this. I want those responsible severely punished. Every time I think we're near peak trans I find we're still plummeting deeper into the mire of this sick cult. All of it was revolting, and one bit really hit me hard - "...tell them you can't live like this..." - the suggestion that you are probably suicidal, or will be if you don't climb abord the trans train, or, at the very least, if you tell your parents that, it'll do the trick.

So I start to think again that peak trans is years, and hundreds more damaged lives, down the line, and all our protestations and hand-wringing are just a sideshow. Or maybe it will just continue as a sub-culture, a stupid religion, for the rest of human history.

Eliza Mondegreen's avatar

I think it will persist as a quasi-religious subculture practicing body-modification rites for a long time. But certainly I hope we can drive it from the mainstream, stop celebrating it, stop teaching it, stop paying for it.

Gender ideology is basically 21st century Skoptsy. Depressingly, Skoptsy was around and growing for two centuries before famine and Stalin finally squelched it out. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skoptsy
