This letter to a trans-identified young adult is as far as I’m willing to concede on language. I didn’t want to shut my interlocutor down. You’ll see what I mean. When I was writing it, I thought of it as a message in a bottle: something you throw into the sea and perhaps someday it resurfaces and the message gets through.
